Top HOA Maintenance Tips For Winter

Living in Austin, we don’t have to worry about shoveling after a big snowstorm, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to prepare our homes for the winter. As HOA Board members, you will want to make sure your residents are prepared for cold weather with these 4 tips.

Prepare The Pipes

In some areas, temperatures can get below freezing, leading to possible issues for your pipes. Damage from frozen pipes can cost a lot of money, so you’ll want to make sure to do the following:

  • You won’t be watering your lawn or swimming in the winter, so make sure to drain water from sprinkler systems and outdoor pools
  • Insulate exterior pipes with thermal padding or tarps
  • Ensure attics, basements, and storage areas are well-heated to avoid interior pipes bursting

Check For Cracks

Keep the cold air out of your home by caulking any cracks in the windows or door frames. In addition, you should update your curtains to something darker and heavier to help keep any cold air out.

Inspect Roofs and Gutters

Hire a roof inspector to look at your roof and ensure there are no cracks, leaks, or damage. You will also want to make sure the gutters are clear of any leaves or debris.

Keep Residents In The Loop

If you don’t have an HOA newsletter, now would be the time to start one! You’ll want to make sure to keep your residents informed about severe weather, inspections, and emergency protocols in case of power outages or other emergencies.
