When it comes to HOA communities, they come in all shapes and sizes. Active adult communities, or 55+ communities, are low-maintenance communities designed with their target market in mind, including amenities, home styles, location, and more. To live in a 55+ community, one resident in each home must be at least 55 years old.
Active adult communities include many things that regular HOA communities don’t. Let’s look at a few things you can expect to see if you decide to live in a 55+ community.
Low Maintenance Lifestyle
The HOA takes care of much of the exterior maintenance of homes and landscaping so residents can enjoy their retirement without worry. Home exteriors are chosen with this in mind and are often made of low-maintenance or maintenance-free materials. You also no longer have to take on the burden of outdoor chores like mowing, landscaping, snow blowing, and more, making your days much easier to enjoy.
Active Adult Amenities
Some HOAs include amenities for residents, but active adult communities have amenities that allow their 55+ residents to remain as active as they want. Some of the most popular amenities for 55+ communities include fitness centers, golf courses, walking trails, and tennis courts. In addition, most 55+ communities include an amenity or community center where residents can socialize with other residents, make friends, and participate in social events and clubs to stay involved.
One Floor Living
As you get older, it can be challenging to go up and down stairs or handle the upkeep of a large home. Active adult communities include one-floor living homes that can help with that. If you’re considering a 55+ community, that usually means you’re ready to downsize, so there’s no need for a larger home.
Quiet & Private
Most of the time, 55+ communities tend to be child-free, leading to more privacy and peace in the community. Children and grandchildren are allowed to visit, so there are times when it might be a little louder than others, but for the most part, you can enjoy your home and the amenities your community provides in peace and with like-minded residents.
