Summer is in full swing, so you’ll be spending more time outside by the pool, enjoying a family cookout, or on vacation with family and friends. With all of these fun activities, you want to take certain precautions to ensure your safety and well-being.
Let’s look at a few summer safety tips to keep you and your family safe.
Secure Your Home
If you have a family vacation planned this summer, make sure all doors and windows are locked, and security system alarms are set. It helps to make your home appear occupied by parking a car in the driveway or having a neighbor pick up any packages off the porch. If you have security in your neighborhood, reach out to them and see if they can drive by your home every day or two to make sure everything is good.
Stay Hydrated
Spending more time outside in the sunshine makes you more likely to get dehydrated. Drink lots of water and take breaks in the shade when needed. You’ll also want to minimize sun exposure to avoid sunburn and reapply sunscreen when necessary.
As a Board member, these tips also apply to your maintenance crew. Working outside in the heat doing physical labor can take a toll on the body. Make sure they know how to handle working in the heat.
Swimming Precautions
If your HOA has a swimming pool, we’re sure you’ll spend more time poolside. Before going to the pool, make sure your children know how to swim. If your HOA doesn’t have a lifeguard, stay alert and aware of your surroundings to ensure everyone’s safety.
Outdoor BBQs
Summer is the best time of the year for family BBQs! Ensure the safety of yourself and others by keeping the grill at least 6 feet away from homes, trees, or buildings. If the kids are running around, make sure they are supervised at all times to avoid injury. Keep a fire extinguisher and some water nearby in case of an unexpected fire.
