Let’s look at a few HOA New Year’s resolutions that are great to add to your list of goals for the year.

Set Realistic Goals (With Deadlines!)

When deciding on your goals for the year, make sure they’re realistic and specific, and come with deadlines. It’s easy to say you want to save money for the budget or improve homeowner satisfaction, but it’s important to know how you will accomplish those goals.

If you want to save money, outlining how much you want to save and how you will save the money are things to consider. Maybe you want to budget less money towards HOA events throughout the year or come up with a going green initiative to cut down on costs. If you want to improve homeowner satisfaction, you should list ways to accomplish this goal, such as asking for homeowners’ thoughts and working towards improving those items. 

Review And Update HOA Bylaws and CC&Rs

Many HOAs tend to write their bylaws and CC&Rs and then neglect to review or update them again. However, things can change from when your HOA was first born, and your bylaws and CC&Rs should reflect those changes. 

Reviewing and updating bylaws and CC&Rs is not easy. It can take a lot of time and usually requires a majority vote. Refusing to update your documents could put HOAs in a bind and cause issues down the road, so make sure to educate your residents and give them all the information they need to make an informed decision.

Improve Communication And Transparency

Communication and transparency are two of the most important things to have among Board members and homeowners. Homeowners want to know what’s going on in their community, and it’s on the Board to provide open lines of communication. Transparency allows Board members to gain residents’ trust and helps improve their reputation. As you can see, communication and transparency work hand in hand and are essential to a successful HOA.
