Curb Appeal is Everything

Curb Appeal is Everything-Prism Realty-Austin Real Estate-Cedar Park Homes-Leander Homes-Georgetown Real Estate

Whether you’re listing your home on the market, just landed in a new home, or have no plans to move – curb appeal is everything!  First impressions matter, and you don’t want a dull, dark entry to leave the wrong one! Boosting your home’s curb appeal doesn’t need to be a major renovation or costly landscaping endeavor.  Here are a few simple tweaks and DIY projects that will immediately upgrade your home’s exterior.

Clean the Entryway

A dingy entryway tends to give the impression that you don’t keep up with the regular maintenance of your home.  There are a few easy ways to give your front stoop a lift.  You’ll be amazed at how much difference these simple fixes will make!

  • Get rid of cobwebs
  • Clean dirt and pollen off of window sills
  • Clean the windows
  • Take the light fixtures down and clear out the bugs
  • Scrub your front door
  • Add a seasonal wreath and welcome mat

Add Plants

Succulents come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. Not only are they a great way to soften a concrete patio, but they’re nearly indestructible. If your green thumb is all thumbs, artificial succulents are pretty tough to spot and require the least maintenance!

Update Your House Number

Replace worn-out house numbers and make sure they are easily seen from the street.  There are a number of creative ways to make this upgrade (see what we did there?).  Any local hardware store will have several options to choose from, and they are easy to install.

Don’t Shun the Shutters

Think of shutters as accessories for your home; the color and condition of these accessories can make or break the look of your exterior.  Add shutters to give your home more architectural interest or highlight big bright windows.  Applying a fresh coat of paint to existing shutters is easier than you think and instantly boosts curb appeal.

Mind the Mailbox

The mailbox is one of the first things people see, so show it some attention. If your mailbox is broken or falling, fix or replace it. A fresh coat of paint in the same color as your shutters or front door will unify your entire space and make a huge difference.  A few simple plants in colorful pots with varying heights and textures can completely change the look of an older mailbox.

Camouflage Eyesores

Conceal eyesores like utility boxes, meters, and grates. Something as simple as a well-placed potted plant or a bit of pine straw or bark can do wonders to conceal the things you cannot fix.  If you have a utility box in the center of your yard, add decorative fencing or lattice around it.  Just make sure the city can still access it if need be. Most importantly – Please – NO FAKE ROCKS!!

If your home’s curb appeal makes a great first impression, everyone will want to see what’s inside!
