The time inside has many people dreaming of vacations, road trips, and outdoor family fun. The summer season will be here before we know it, and with Texas being such a large and beautiful state, there’s so much to see and experience without traveling too far from Austin. Plan a few vacations to these beloved Texas cities and enjoy all the sites they have to offer.
Dallas
Whether you’re looking for a fun day of riding rollercoasters at Six Flags Over Texas or a relaxing family picnic at Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, there’s a lot the city has to offer. Dallas is home to the Margarita Mile, has the best international skyline, and is the 2019 Bon Appétit Restaurant City of the year.
Fort Worth
On your way to or from Dallas, you’ll want to spend some time in Fort Worth. The Fort Worth Stockyards has two daily cattle walks led by real cowboys that your family will love. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is also worth a visit. It has an IMAX dome, planetarium, and a variety of exhibits inside.
Grapevine
Grapevine is often overlooked by many, but with family-friendly attractions like the LEGOLAND Discovery Center and the Parr Park Sprayground, it offers a ton of fun for people of all ages. Don’t forget to check out the Grapevine Vintage Railroad.
Amarillo
It’s not a road trip without hitting part of the historic Route 66. Check it off the summer to-do list while on your way to exploring the Cadillac Ranch, Bill’s Backyard Classics, and the Palo Duro Canyon.
Houston
If you’ve ever dreamed of walking on the moon and floating amongst the stars, you’ll want to make a trip to the Space Center. The Downtown Aquarium has a wonderful amusement park and a gorgeous restaurant. Trust us, it’s a must-see.
San Antonio
The Alamo is a part of Texas’ rich history, and it’s not a trip to San Antonio without stepping back in time. The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is also a beloved attraction, and you’ll want to dine at the Tower of the Americas for some of the best views of the city.
South Padre Island
If your family is looking for a beach adventure this summer, South Padre Island is the perfect place to be! Go jet skiing, fishing, surfing, and dolphin watching. Then head to Beach Park at Isla Blanca for some slides, rides, and waterpark fun.
Be sure to take the summer to make memories with your family and explore why Texas is the best place to call home.
