If you’re already looking to begin your spring cleaning and have set your sights on having a spotless home throughout the new season, you may want to start small. Look at the places that don’t get a regular cleaning first and see the big changes it can make.
1. Clean your jewelry.
It may come as a surprise, but vodka can be used as a great cleaning solution, especially when it comes to cleaning your gold and silver jewelry. Simply soak your jewelry in vodka, then take a toothbrush to get rid of the rest of the debris.
2. Save and use a few old t-shirts for streak-free cleaning.
Cotton t-shirts make great cleaning rags when it comes time to clean windows and mirrors as they don’t leave any streaks or stray lint behind.
3. Get rid of the streaks and smears on your TV, computers, and tablets.
Fingerprints and smudges always seem to find their way onto your TVs and computers, and you’re never sure how it happened. Electronics need a delicate hand when cleaning them as they can be easily scratched and damaged. Luckily, a coffee filter is gentle on the screens and gets rid of all those sneaky smudges.
4. Wash the dishwasher.
Now is the time to refresh your dishwasher and have it ready to combat that grease buildup on your dishes throughout the spring. Put a couple of cups of white vinegar in the dishwasher and run a hot cycle.
5. Disinfect your cell phone.
Many studies find that the dirtiest item in your home may actually be your cell phone. Take the case off of your phone, wipe down all sides of your phone with a disinfectant wipe, and then do the same to the case before putting the case back on.
6. Flip your mattress and give it a deep clean.
Strip the bedding from the mattress and vacuum the sides and top. To really refresh your mattress, sprinkle baking soda on the top, let sit for 30 minutes, and then vacuum it up. Once that’s done, rotate your mattress 180 degrees, so that the springs wear down evenly.
7. Say goodbye to toaster crumbs.
Unplug the toaster, take out the crumb tray, and give it a wash. Then take a toothbrush, and use a little bit of soapy water to get into the harder to reach areas of the toaster. Allow the toaster to dry completely before plugging it back in for your morning bagels.
